Friday Favorites: Projects

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Friday Favorites!  We had so much fun last week, we thought we'd try this again.  Last week, I posted about my favorite Pinterest pin that I haven't actually used yet (there are about a million of those).  This week, I'm going to share a project that I actually finished after being inspired by another pin.

I started quilting a couple of years ago, and didn't really discover the fun of blogs and blogging until then.  I LOVED finding new and amazing quilting blogs that would teach and inspire me to start another project (usually after vowing I'd never quilt again).  Now that Pinterest is the craze, it's so easy to find beautiful quilts and future projects.

As my parents' 40th wedding anniversary approached, I knew I wanted to make them a quilt, but I didn't just want any quilt.  I wanted a quilt that would be significant or mean something to them.  So I scoured my quilt board on Pinterest for a quilt that I could apply to this special occasion.  That's when I found this quilt:

Ironically, it was linked back to the quilting blog of Lisa's sisters-in-law, Heather and Megan, at quiltstory.blogspot.com.  The original project can be found at this cute blog.  I think I loved this quilt for my parents because it symbolized (to me) the growing posterity that started with the union of two people.  It was a big project, but I really enjoyed working on it, and was able to (mostly) finish the night before I flew home to Oregon to surprise my parents with a visit.  Of course I forgot to get a picture of the final product, but this picture gives you the general idea:

I LOVE how it turned out, and think my parents like it too.  :)  My next quilting project: Norah's quilt.  I have 8 weeks to get it done.  What projects are you working on?  Have a great week, and keep on crafting!!

Last week, I volunteered to make cake pops for my good friend's daughter's birthday party.  I LIVE for any type of party so I was very excited to do this.  After I made 20 adorable cake pops, I couldn't figure out how to get them to her house in one piece.  I knew this wouldn't end well if I just had my 4-year old hold them.  So....I ran out to the massive pile of wood I have on the side of my house (we just picked up a load of reclaimed wood from my in-law's house....gorgeous!), grabbed a piece, cut it down to a reasonable size, painted and distressed it, drilled 17 holes in it (that's all that I could fit) and this is what I got....

I think it turned out extremely cute. In fact, I made a few more for my own kid's birthdays.  I can't wait to show you what I am going to do with some smore pops in a few weeks!  I have a few more wood projects I (and my husband) am working on.  I can't wait to try to make a lounge couch out of some of the pallets we have collected.  Stay tuned!
